Seeing how these came around in 1998, they do feel like a product of the late 90’s, when junk food experimentation was very common. I remember eating the strawberry and blue raspberry ones the most often. I remember the sugar being a bit overpowering, but I still loved these things. Then, you could shake the bottle and make the sugar stick to the sucker evenly. Within the bottle was flavored sugar, one of the most unhealthy things on the planet, that you could dip the tip in. The sucker here was in the shape of a tip of a baby bottle. Let’s begin with perhaps the most well-known, the Ring Pop. They’re a fun little topic from my childhood, so I decided to talk about them. I have several memories of these suckers, including eating them at many Little League baseball and Biddy-Buddy basketball games. I’m guessing they have a higher concentration of sugar. These three, along with Juicy Drop Pops, had somewhat stronger tastes than, say, a Dum Dum. This trifecta of suckers consisted of Push Pops, Baby Bottle Pops, and Ring Pops. They also own Bazooka gum, but I’ve never had it. Yes, the trading card company (that Michael Eisner used to own?). Overall, it was a pleasant trip down memory lane.įollowing this, I got thinking about the other childhood suckers owned by Topps. Confectionary like this is pretty easy to predict the flavor of. The taste was about how I expected: a standard sucker with some of that sour juice you drop in the special indentation of it.
It’s such a little detail, but it helps make the pop all the more memorable. The star-shaped link from the tip to the side in particular stands out.
Looking at the container is like traveling back to 2005 you rarely see designs this wacky and outlandish anymore in consumer products.
